The mature miR-122 guide strand is processed from its duplex precursor and incorporated into functional microRNA-protein (miRNP) complexes. These complexes target one or two miR-122 target sites (grey boxes) in the HCV 5′-UTR and confer HCV RNA stability and translation stimulation (indicated by the (+)).
